Craftivism and The Pussy Hat

I was living in Los Angeles when I met Kat Coyle. Her yarn shop was right next to the restaurant I was working at. She was an eclectic regular that came in at least twice a week for lunch. I knew her for months before I found out that she had designed the infamous Pussy Hat.

The Pussy Hat was that pink knitted cap with cat ears that became the symbol for the 2017 Women’s March. It was on the cover of Time Magazine, it was on SNL, it was everywhere. Kat, with her colorful sweaters and regular order, was responsible for it.

I asked her if she’d let me record an interview with her, and she graciously accepted. What resulted was a surprisingly humble conversation with a non-partisan woman who knitted a little hat, and was thrown into the political spotlight.
